I’ve been painting for 25 years and have had some amazing experiences in the art world. I've interacted with fascinating people, studied with brilliant teachers and students alike, and even participated and placed in shows. During most of this time, however, art was more like a hobby that I made a little money doing…much like my barrel racing career.
But in 2020, it felt like I’d been strapped in the saddle of a runaway horse with my hands tied behind my back. Due to several life changes, painting became one of my primary sources of income. This was terrifying because I felt totally unqualified. I didn’t have the training and skills compared to “other” artists out there and, in many ways, I was starting my life over.
What about you? Is there something you've been called to do, yet feel unequipped for? My friend, trust me when I say I understand...but will you or I let these feelings keep us from giving our very best, or will we press on, enjoy the journey, and trust God to guide our every step?
Ultimately, there’s really no contest between these two options. I am striving every day towards the things I have been created for, and I want to encourage you to do the same. Cowgirl grit has nothing to do with things looking perfect, having a life free from struggle, or even living on a ranch. It's choosing to get back up again and again, even when everything tells us not to. It's giving ourselves grace and knowing we are loved and that it's okay to be scared.
Whether you start the day in the saddle, in the office, in the schoolroom, or another place entirely,
you are made for this.
You are already a person of grit, and I am cheering you on!
This is hard, but nothing good is ever easy.
Never, ever quit!
Love, Kim
"We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love."
~Romans 5:3
